Tutorial: Lining the Sleeves of the Minuit Dress

Spotlight on the Minuit Dress

We suggest you end the year with a simple and effective tutorial on how to line the sleeves of the Minuit dress.

Is he stealing the sequin?

To celebrate the end of 2023, this year's holiday box is fun and full of glitter!

When it comes to fabric, we went with a two-material combination: navy blue viscose paired with sequins—a brand-new fabric never before seen at Majam!

Since we think of everyone here at Majam (or at least we try to!), we’re sharing a quick tutorial on how to line sequined sleeves in case you have sensitive skin. It’s the perfect opportunity to use up your fabric scraps!

Please note: This is by no means essential! It’s a dress meant for a festive evening, but if you want more comfort, go ahead and add a lining!

What kind of fabric should I use for the lining?

Choose a scrap of lightweight fabric from your fabric stash: viscose, cotton, solid-colored fabric, patterned fabric… It doesn’t matter—this lining won’t show 😉

Create the pattern

First, draw a line on the sleeve pattern 2.5 cm from the bottom of the sleeve.

Next, fold your pattern along this line.

This will be the pattern for our lining sleeve.

Use this pattern to cut out the lining sleeves from your fabric.

Let's get started on the sewing!

For this tutorial, we’ll use a green lining on the right side and a white lining on the wrong side in our diagrams.

First, we'll sew the sequined sleeves and the lining together, right sides facing, at the bottom of the sleeve, 1 cm from the edge.

Next, fold the lining sleeve so that the wrong sides are together, and align the entire top of the sleeve
, edge to edge.

Secure it in place by hand-stitching 5 mm from the edge so that the lining sleeve and the fabric sleeve become one!

And ta-da!

Your sleeve is lined, and the hem at the bottom of the sleeve is done, too!
