Adjusting the Florence Dress to Fit Multiple Sizes

Florence Dress Pattern

The Florence dress is fitted at the waist (just a little above the waist, to be precise), so in many cases, you’ll need to adjust the pattern to accommodate different sizes. To make this as clear as possible, let’s look at an example.

Let's say I'm a size 40 in the bust and a size 44 at the waist, because my waist isn't very defined. In that case, since the Florence pattern is fitted, I'll need to make an adjustment for the bust of the dress.

Here's how to go from a size 40 to a size 44 for the bust.

1- For the back - piece No. 4

  • Cut a 40 that connects to the 44, starting 1 cm below the zipper notch.
  • Trace the pattern for size 42.

2- For the front yoke—piece no. 2

  • Cut a 40 that connects to the 44 at the bottom of the piece

3- For the front—Piece No. 1

  • Cut a 40 that connects to the 44, starting 1 cm below the zipper notch.
  • Reset the notches on the 42.
  • For the diagonal seam, follow the same steps as for the yoke: join it to the 44 at the bottom of the piece.

4- For the front trim panel

  • Same thing: a size 40 that becomes a size 44 at the bottom of the garment

Finally, cut your skirts in size 44, and the other pieces in size 40.

And there you go—all done!
